Beautiful beaches, picturesque hills, numerous historical and cultural sites, excellent cuisine and the widest selection of entertainment - all these factors make Fethiye one of the most popular places in Turkey that relatively few Dutch people know about. Pine forests, which are located in the vicinity, are ideal for walking and cycling. Here you will find fantastic clean air and a beautiful view of the city and the coast from the mountain tops. Fethiye is on the current Lycian road route. Once known as Telmessos, Persians, Romans and Byzantines lived here throughout history. Today it is called Fethiye because of the memory of the first Turkish pilot Fethi.

The central part of Fethiye is the most interesting from the point of view of history and architecture. Most of the old buildings are located here. New districts, squares and alleys are also located here next to old houses. There are several restaurants along the boulevard where you can enjoy a delicious meal in the evening and dream away at a romantic sunset while enjoying a good glass of wine, but you can also enjoy a delicious breakfast here in the morning.

The old center of Fethiye is very pleasant both during the day and in the evening. Fethiye, like many other Turkish places, has an umbrella street or an umbrella street. In narrow streets and on the picturesque squares you will find various small shops, restaurants and bars that are happy to welcome their guests. On one side opposite the old center, also called Paspatur, you end up in the harbor and on the other side of the old center you will find the fish market or balık pazarı. The balık pazar is highly recommended to eat. In the middle, the fishermen sell fresh fish that you can have baked for you in one of the restaurants, it couldn't be fresher! The atmosphere there is great. Turkish music sides come to play at your table while you enjoy your meal or drink. We can recommend Receps Place and REIS, they will always give you a friendly welcome and the food is of very good quality.

There is also an antique theater and a museum in the old center with all kinds of information about the history of Fethiye and you can board on the boulevard for a day trip at sea with a gulet (a Turkish wooden sailing ship). A little further in the center there is a market every Tuesday, this is the largest market in the region. Here you can buy counterfeit clothes from well-known brands, sunglasses, bedding, rugs, shoes, kitchen utensils and bags. It is definitely recommended to go to the market on a Tuesday. A little further from the old center is Erasta, a modern indoor shopping center with all kinds of modern shops.
