Tefenni is a very small village and a district that is very rural between mountains in the province of Burdur in the Mediterranean area. From Tefenni you can ski in winter in the nearby ski center Salda Kayak Centre.


The beautiful Salda Lake, also called "the Turkish Maldives", is also nearby, where you can enjoy walking, cycling and swimming in the summer. It is estimated that Lake Salda was formed about 2 million years ago. This crater lake is one of the deepest (184 m), clearest and cleanest tectonic lakes in Turkey. The characteristics of Lake Salda are the white sandy beaches and the turquoise water, because there is magnesium in the water, the sand gets its white color. If something is in the water for a long time it will turn white and this proves that the lake is still producing magnesium at this time.

Lake Salda is very special for another reason because it is 1 of the two places in the world where features of the planet Mars occur, because the white clayey soil on the shores of Lake Salda also occur on Mars.

Lake Salda and the surrounding black pine forests have native plant and animal species unique to this region. There are 3 species of freshwater fish in the lake and around the lake in the woods there are animals such as wild boars, foxes and turtles. Two species of mullein grow only on the southern shore of Lake Salda.


Also close to Tefenni is the village of Akçaköy. In this village you will find beautiful lavender fields. Breathe in the scent of lavender during a walk or bike ride. Lavender is known for its soothing and calming effect and it also gives you support in case of unrest, stress or anxiety. With all its vitamins and minerals, it also boosts your immune system.

The capital Burdur is also worth a visit, you can visit the clock tower, the local market, there are several museums including an archaeological museum.


In Burdur province they also have a local culinary specialty, Burdur Şiş Köfte, which are small elongated pieces of grilled minced meat prepared with special spices, this is definitely worth tasting! In the City of Burdur you will find several restaurants where you can eat this.


A little from the city of Burdur are the İnsuyu caves with nearby the old ancient remains of the city of Kremna. There are several remains of ancient cities in Burdur province such as the cities of Kibyra and Aglasun. These are also definitely worth a visit.


You can even take a day trip from Tefenni to Pamukkale and visit the ancient city of Hierapolis. Pamukkale is known for the nearby limestone terraces, which gave the city its name, which means "castle of cotton". Strongly calcareous water runs down a slope via a large number of terraces. .


Burdur is the capital of the district of the same name and the province of Burdur in Turkey and is not located directly on the coast, but in the Mediterranean area.
