"Kalkan, a small authentic fishing village with beautiful small bays where you can relax"

About an hour's drive from Fethiye is the small picturesque fishing town of Kalkan. Kalkan, located on the beautiful turquoise coast of Turkey, has not yet been affected by mass tourism. Kalkan is more sophisticated than the usual beach resorts and appeals to travelers looking for more than a "sun and sea" holiday.

The area around Kalkan includes historical sites and beautiful beaches. The city overlooks a beautiful bay in which islands seem to float magically on the shimmering sea.

Narrow streets wind down to the harbour, lined with old whitewashed villas with shuttered windows, situated next to small local specialty shops and restaurants in historic buildings. Hanging overhead are original carved Ottoman Greek wooden balconies adorned with thick masses of brilliantly colored bougainvillea cascading down to the streets below. Kalkan is well known in Turkey for its many rooftop restaurants and bars that offer stunning views of the city and the sea. It is also nice to sit in one of the many fine restaurants on the harbor and watch the pleasure boats and fishermen leave early in the morning while you have breakfast, or watch the fishing boats return in the evening with the catch of the day. There is a lot to do during the day and the nightlife is fun but relaxed. You won't find a noisy, wild nightlife here.

From Kalkan you can also make all kinds of active and cultural trips. The many quiet villas built against the mountains often have a beautiful view of the sea and the city.

Kalkan ligt tussen Fethiye en Antalya aan de Middelandse Zee in de provincie Antalya.

The transport:

The roads in Turkey are passable. Drivers in Turkey drive slightly more risky than in the Netherlands. Traffic drives on the right side of the road.

The climate:

Kalkan is a beautiful holiday destination in both winter and summer. Many shops in the center are closed in winter, but the mild climate in winter makes Kalkan attractive for spending the winter, for example.
